22nd Cluster Session: “Cybersecurity as a Border Security Component. Threats, needs and best practices in the sector.”

CRDF Global in Ukraine and the National Cyber Security Coordination Center (NCSCC) under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) are engaging more partners in discussing current issues in the industry. The 22nd meeting of the National Cybersecurity Cluster was held in partnership with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS).

During the session, participants discussed needs, threats, and best practices in the defense sector of the cybersecurity field of Ukraine, as well as further steps for the development of cooperation between institutions in the sector.

The event consisted of two parts: knowledge exchange and a panel discussion. In the first part of the meeting, the following participants shared their presentations:

  • Anatolii Protsiuk, Head of the Cybersecurity Center of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Presentation topic: “Key aspects of activities in cyberspace”.
  • Ihor Smirnov, Deputy Director, Department of Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization, State Customs Service of Ukraine. Presentation topic: “Cybersecurity Needs and Priorities”.
  • Oleksandr Illusha, Techical Director, ESET. Presentation topic: “Non-standard Bypassing of Security Systems and Other Practical Experience of the ESET Team in Ukraine in Countering Cyberattacks”.
  • Scott Davis, Chief Information Security Officer. Presentation topic: “Best Cybersecurity Practices in the Sector: USA Experience”.

The Participants of the second part of the event discussed key threats, challenges and ways to improve cyber defense in the field of cybersecurity of Ukraine. The panel discussion brought together such speakers as:

  • Nataliia Tkachuk, Head of the Information Security and Cybersecurity Service of the NSDC of Ukraine Office.
  • Stanislav Chernytsia, Senior Officer of the Department of Communication and Information Systems of the ASBGSU.
  • Ihor Smirnov, Deputy Director, Department of Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization, State Customs Service of Ukraine.
  • Anatolii Protsiuk, Head of the Cybersecurity Center of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine
  • Oleksandr Bakalynskyi, Deputy Director of the Cybersecurity Department, SSSCIP.
  • Serhii Derevyanko, Chief Specialist of the Department for Cybersecurity in Information and Communication Systems of the Information Technology Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
  • Roman Solohub, CEO, ISSP.

The panel discussion was moderated by Ehor Aushev, CEO, Cyber Unit Technologies.

The 22nd meeting of the Cluster brought together about a hundred partners from government agencies, embassies, donor organizations, private and academic sectors.
